The Bespoke Suit — Our Process
The Bespoke Suit — Our Process
Dhiren Ved Anand Atelier, New Delhi
A bespoke suit from our atelier is not a product you select — it is a garment we build around you, from the first conversation to the final fitting. The process typically takes 4 to 6 weeks and involves three appointments at our Shahpur Jat studio.
01 — The Consultation
We begin with a conversation about how you live in clothes — how you carry yourself, where the suit will be worn, what silhouette you gravitate toward. No measuring tape yet. We look at reference images together, discuss lapel shape, button stance, trouser rise, lining preferences, and fabric weight for the occasion and season.
02 — Fabric Selection
We source wools, wool-linens, silks, and heritage Indian textiles from mills in Bhilwara, Surat, and Maheshwar. You feel the cloth in hand before committing. We guide you on weight, weave, and what each fabric will do over a long day of wear. For wedding commissions, we also work with hand-loomed and mill-woven silks specific to the occasion.
03 — Measurements & Pattern
Twenty-two measurements are taken by hand. We note posture, shoulder slope, and body asymmetries — details a standard size chart cannot account for. A personal pattern is then drafted from scratch for your body, not scaled from a block.
04 — The Baste Fitting
Before cutting into your final cloth, a toile or basted first canvas is constructed. You try this on so we can see exactly how the pattern sits on your body in motion — not just standing still. Adjustments are marked, the pattern is corrected, and only then does the real cutting begin.
05 — Construction
The suit is built by our craftsmen in our partner workshop in Delhi. We use a half-canvas construction as standard on all bespoke commissions — hand-stitched chest canvas that moulds to your posture over time. Buttonholes are worked by hand. Lining is chosen to complement the cloth and the occasion.
06 — The Final Fitting & Delivery
The finished suit is tried on at the studio for a final check — sleeve pitch, trouser break, button alignment. Minor adjustments are turned around within 48 hours. The garment is then pressed, packed, and ready.
Bespoke suits start at ₹45,000 for single-breasted wool and increase with fabric, construction complexity, and occasion. Wedding commissions are quoted individually.
